Masterful Massage by Giovanni

Giovanni is an expert masseur whom I’ve seen for years. In the past, I’ve had too many massage therapists that go through the motions without paying attention to what my body actually needs in that moment. Giovanni is the clear exception. He pays attention to what he’s feeling during a massage to know when to push deeper, spend more time, or work on one area that is contributing to the tightness in another. I’ve come to rely on Giovanni’s care not only when I’m having the most acute pain but also to prevent recurring issues particularly when I shift workout routines; and just as often when I need to relax into my body. Its his expertise and friendly, calm approach that has made him my number one go to for years.

On June 21, 2009, my friend surprised me with a massage for a Father’s Day gift. I told him, I’m not into massages. I hear all these stories of how a masseuse bends and digs elbows etc … Never really having a legit massage, I agreed.

We arrived at the home of the masseur, Giovanni. I proceeded to share my thoughts with him and he assured me, if it hurts, let me know. My work over the last forty years is very physical. My arms, shoulders and neck are continuously in pain. I also was hit head-on by a large SUV and have lower back issues. The best way to describe my experience is, I walked out of his house feeling like a teenager! I hadn’t had that mobility in years! Even though I live in So Cal and Giovanni in located in SF, I have managed to visit him four to six times a year. I highly recommend his services!

Giovanni is a strong and intuitive massage therapist. His skilled hands effortlessly find every knot, stiff tendon, and tense muscle. He melts them away with expert precision. He adapts every session to my needs, whether I have an injury, PMS, DOMS, or am doing well. His cozy massage room, and his calm and attentive nature, create a tranquil atmosphere where I feel truly cared for. I highly recommended Gio for an exceptional massage!

I have been an IHSS and private live in caregiver since 2019. Caregivers are first responders to the most vulnerable. We are often injured in the course of work with clients. I first met Giovanni in January 2021 after I injured my left shoulder/neck transporting a patient in his wheelchair. I was able to continue to care for the patient. My injury resolved due to Giovanni’s work with massage/body work. In April 2023, caring for a different client, I again injured my left shoulder/neck moving her belongings after the 2023 Bay Area phenomenal rains. I have had four sessions so far, which has allowed me to continue working with my client. Otherwise the patient would likely otherwise have been institutionalized for a lack of care. My patient and I can only thank Gio for his work. Highly recommend.

Giovanni is a very professional and genuine guy. He delivers an excellent massage. I loved all the techniques he included, acupressure, breathing, stretching, and deep tissue. Every part of my body felt completely relaxed after the massage. My sessions have influenced me to do stretches periodically. I don’t think I could find anyone as good as him in SF.

I have visited Giovanni for bodywork multiple times over the past few years. He is good at his craft.

I have been a client of Giovanni for over 20 years. Giovanni is very focused on providing the best massage experience possible. I am pretty compact and solid. I run and lift weights and require a fair amount of deep pressure. Giovanni is able to provide very strong and well focused pressure to big muscles like glutes, thighs and back while applying the appropriate pressure to more sensitive areas like calves, hamstrings, biceps and forearms. Giovanni is working hard during the entire massage. I always leave feeling my entire body has been worked over very thoroughly. f you have a sore or sensitive spot he will find it and address it. Giovanni uses unscented lotion which I much prefer to oil. His apartment and massage room is very neat, clean and calming. Street parking is generally easy and the neighborhood is very safe. Giovanni has always been an excellent massage therapist and has only improved over time. Experience matters. I highly recommend Giovanni! 5 stars!

Giovanni is a consummate professional massage therapist. He has an excellent way of putting one at ease. The last session I had with him, he stretched me in such a way that I literally felt my back realigning. He was strong, yet gentle at the same time, which is great for me since I have an incredibly knotty but sensitive back. I have been going to Giovanni for many years. His home is warm and inviting, especially the massage studio with its rich orange color, candles and incense. His massage table is very comfortable even with my large frame.

He listens to your description of your body's needs for the session and tailors his massage just for you. I love the mix of fascia work, stretching, kneading and long strokes. His technique is excellent. He's always on your muscles and doesn't slip and hurt your bones or joints like some lesser trained therapists can do. He's a pro, the real deal.

Giovanni's many years of massage experience comes out each time I visit him. He responds to wherever I am at. Sometimes I want a deep tissue massage, other times I want it softer. Not only does he listen to what I say, his intuition is strong. There is no one way - each time is different. I have been going monthly for several years now. It is probably my best habit.
